illustration friday: mischief

Illustrating it

I'll probably make a better version of this later. I'm posting this as my thoughts on the illustration friday theme "mischief" - because the first thing I thought of was cats, and I never let an excuse to draw cats pass me by. Used painter and drawing tablet.

daily sketch topic: angels and demons

explaining it

i hang around several daily sketch forums, as i find having a given topic often helps me to get started drawing. i'm quite good at doodling without a purpose, too, but this really is the best way to kickstart a drawing session. today's topic at one of those forums is "angels and demons". i like cats.

one cup of nostalgia, please.

writing it

your name on my tongue
leaves a strong java taste
sounds like someone flicking a lighter
at the other end of the line

and i shut my mouth to stop the
friendship escaping: a bottle of
cheap whisky, portishead records and
a conversational nostalgia machine.

(20 minutes, notepad + painter + wacom)

illustration friday: ambition

Explaining it
Theme word "ambition". The first thing that occured to me was a high school teacher who taught me a lot, perhaps first and foremost this:

"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied-
"If you seek for Eldorado!"

(-edgar allan poe / read the entire text)

Eldorado is always far away, over the mountains, along a road that'll wear out your feet. Ambition is to keep walking - keep watching the horizon for the gold.

Illustrating it
I used painter and my wacom tablet, entire work took me approximately one hour. Not a style I'm very familiar with; I can hardly remember the last time I did anything that resembled a landscape. Sloppy work on the colouring.

What it's about

All of a sudden this is where I post illustration friday entries. Just to, you know, clarify things. And, my dear old arts teacher from junior high: I did not become a lawyer or an archeologist or a mathematician or a writer. Cash in your money now, you won the bet.
